A man has died in hospital following a road crash in west Fife.

Frank MacFarlane, 61, from Rosyth, passed away at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on Saturday after suffering serious injuries in the crash on the A985 between Cairneyhil­l roundabout and Kincardine.

Mr MacFarlane’s blue BMW 3 Series left the road and struck a wall at around 5.35am on Friday as he made his way towards the Kincardine Bridge.

It is understood Mr MacFarlane became ill at the wheel, causing the vehicle to career into a field.

Emergency services rushed Mr MacFarlane on the 37-mile journey to Edinburgh by ambulance for emergency treatment.

Police confirmed yesterday that Mr MacFarlane died on Saturday evening.

His stepdaught­er Brogan Taylor paid tribute to him after confirming the news on social media.

“He was an amazing man and will be in our hearts forever and will be sadly missed by a lot of people but he is finally at peace and out of pain,” she said.

“RIP Franky boy, one of the best men in my life.

“I will love you forever.

“Until we meet again shine bright my angel.”

Police officers are still seeking witnesses to the incident and they hope motorists who were in or around the area at the time and may have seen the vehicle involved will come forward.

Sergeant Alastair Purvis, of Fife’s road policing department, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Mr MacFarlane at this difficult time.

“Inquiries into the incident are ongoing. We would urge anybody who was driving on the road and may have dashcam footage or witnessed the incident to contact police.”

The road between the Cairneyhil­l roundabout and Kincardine was closed for around six hours on Friday as crash investigat­ors tried to piece together what happened.

No other vehicles are thought to have been involved in the incident.
