Thousands in east of Scotland affected by broadband outage

-

Thousands working from home across the east of Scotland went without the internet yesterday as a Sky “broadband issue” left customers reeling.

The problem affected people in Perthshire, Dundee, Fife and Angus, as well as further north in Aberdeenshire and Moray.

Those affected lost connectivity early in the day with many still not back up and running in the late afternoon.

Dundee customers also reported not being able to make or receive calls from landlines.

Many took to social media to vent their frustration while some were forced to move back into offices temporarily or find local cafes.

One said working from home was “impossible” while others said they would likely have to work the weekend to make up for lost time.

Just after midday, Sky released a statement claiming the “vast majority” of customers should be back up online.

However, users continued to flood its online helpline complaining of ongoing issues.

Many in the Aberdeen and Dundee areas said the internet had been restored but had gone down again.

A spokesman for Sky said: “We are aware there are issues with our broadband services in the east of Scotland today.

“We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible and the majority of customers should now be back online. We’re sorry for the inconvenience this caused.”

Despite this, the organisation’s Twitter team simultaneously responded to customers stating it would not be able to provide “any other information” on the outages.

Customers in Shetland and Orkney also reported issues throughout the day.
