Tributes have been paid to Dave Morris, former manager of Dundee Foodbank and described as “one of life’s good guys”, who has died at the age of 35.

Mr Morris, who was widely respected for his community and church work across the city, died suddenly on August 10 after suffering a heart attack.

He was known by many in the city for his work with the foodbank, as operations director at City Church Dundee, and as a financial adviser as part of the council-run Dundee Money Action.

His wife Julia made an emotional tribute to her husband saying it had been his “life’s mission to help people”.

She added: “He’d always been pretty serious about social justice and was a Christian who just wanted to make a difference in the world.

“He had a really big heart, lots of organisational skills and wanted to use them in a field where it mattered.

“He’d always been very involved in the community.

“It was his faith fundamentally which made him want to help people. He was always about equality and justice, fighting for the underdog. He believed that people deserved a chance, no matter who they were.”

As well as having their two boys, Ruben and Sam, the couple were also respected for fostering children in Dundee with Julia adding that despite his numerous commitments, her husband always put his family first and made sure he spent as much time with them as possible.

Fellow public servants in Dundee have also paid tribute to the community worker whose work is thought to have helped countless people suffering hardship.

John Alexander, leader of Dundee City Council, praised Mr Morris’s commitment to helping those in need.

“Dave was one of life’s all-round good guys,” said the council leader.

“He worked incredibly hard to support people across the city and always did so with a smile, even in the most challenging of situations.

“He made a huge contribution to the Dundee Foodbank, his church and more recently, in his work with the council on financial inclusion.

“He’ll be sorely missed and the city is a poorer place without him.”

Ewan Gurr, who preceded Dave as the foodbank’s project manager, said: “This was a guy who always worked with organisations, who supported others.

“That’s just the kind of person he was. Both him and Julia always cared about others.”
