Leisure centres and swimming pools confirm phased opening

- CRAIG SMITH

Fife’s main leisure centres and swimming pools will reopen on a phased basis from September 14.

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust will roll out a reopening programme at Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre in Glenrothes, Carnegie Leisure Centre and Pitreavie Athletics Centre in Dunfermline, and Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre.

That will be followed by St Andrews’ East Sands Leisure Centre, Levenmouth Swimming Pool and Sports Centre, Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre and Dalgety Bay Leisure Centre on September 28.

The next phase will see Duloch Leisure Centre, Cupar Leisure Centre, Bowhill Swimming Pool and Waterstone Crook Leisure Centre welcoming customers on October 12, followed by the Beacon Leisure Centre on October 26.

Emma Walker, chief executive of Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said:

The short notice period suits smaller, private providers. EMMA WALKER

“The short notice period suits smaller, private providers rather than larger organisation like the trust.”

Angus sports centres will stick to a mid-September reopening plan to put safety procedures in place and train staff.

Pools, health suites and creches in the facilities will stay shut.

Arbroath Sports Centre, Forfar Community Campus and Montrose Sports Centre will be the first to reopen from September 14.

Brechin Community Campus and Carnoustie Sports Centre will follow on September 18, with Arbroath’s Saltire Sports Centre and Websters Sports Centre in Kirriemuir welcoming customers back on September 21.

Bosses at Fife’s Cultural Trust have confirmed the curtains at the region’s main theatre venues will not be raised next month. Kirkcaldy’s Adam Smith Theatre, Dunfermline’s Carnegie Hall, the Lochgelly Centre and the Rothes Halls in Glenrothes will all remain shut.
