Man killed in crash on the A92 is named

Police Scotland have named a 53-year-old Angus man as the victim of a fatal weekend road crash on the A92 near Montrose.

He was George Moran from Arbroath.

The incident happened at around 12.20pm on Saturday, on the A92 St Cyrus to Montrose road at Kinnaber, when a lorry’s load and a Kia Picanto car were involved in a collision.

Mr Moran was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger was conveyed to Ninewells Hospital with serious, but not life-threatenin­g injuries.

Mr Moran’s family did not want to say anything when they were contacted yesterday.

They paid tribute on social media. Daughter Lisamarie Moran posted “love you dad” followed by the drawing of three broken hearts.

Martyn Walker said : “Great guy, will be sadly missed.”

Road Policing Sergeant William Strachan said: “Our investigat­ion into the incident continues and I would urge anybody who was driving on the road and may have dashcam footage or witnessed the incident to contact police.”

Anyone with informatio­n is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 1712 of August 22.

The accident happened on the A92 immediatel­y before the Hillside turn off, near the Kinnaber Viaduct across the River North Esk.

The road was closed for around 10 hours on Saturday.

Local people reported hearing a bang.

One woman, who lives nearby, said that traffic immediatel­y backed up on the A92 on both sides of the river before police arrived.

The road had been cleared and reopened by Sunday lunchtime with signs alerting motorists to a skid risk at the accident site.
