Scottish trio handed away ties in Europe

-

All three Scottish clubs in the second round of Europa League qualifying have been handed away ties.

Rangers will travel to Gibraltar to face semi-professional side Lincoln Red Imps on September 17 .

The minnows infamously beat Celtic 1-0 in Brendan Rodgers’ first match in charge of the Hoops in July 2016 but Celtic went on to win the second leg of the Champions League second qualifying round tie 3-0.

Aberdeen are away to Viking Stavanger of Norway, while Motherwell visit Coleraine in Northern Ireland.

Aberdeen will be making their first European visit to Norway, although they did beat Stavanger 2-1 in a 2015 Energy Cities Cup game at Pittodrie.

Viking are 16 matches into their season but sit 10th in the league with just five wins.

Motherwell go to Coleraine on the back of a 5-1 win over Glentoran in the first qualifying round.

Coleraine’s first-round win over Maribor ensured Well edged into the seeded half of the draw.

Coleraine manager Oran Kearney is no stranger to Scottish football, having previously been at the helm at St Mirren.

Tottenham Hotspur have been drawn away to Lokomotiv Plovdiv in the second qualifying round.

The north London club have never played the Bulgarian outfit, who overcame Iskra Danilovgrad of Montenegro in the previous round.

The Republic of Ireland’s Shamrock Rovers will host former seven-time Champions League winners AC Milan. The Serie A club will have to travel to Dublin for the clash behind closed doors.

Rovers qualified for the second round with a penalty shoot-out win over Finland’s Ilves Tampere last week.

Elsewhere, Bala host Standard Liege, Dundalk are drawn against Andorran club Inter Club d’Escaldes, Connah’s Quay are paired with Georgia’s Dinamo Tbilisi and Linfield will face Floriana of Malta.

The New Saints, of the Cymru Premier, travel to Faroese side B36 Torshavn.

All the ties will be single-leg affairs and are expected to take place on September 17.

● Rangers defender Lewis Mayo has signed a new three-year contract.

The 20-year-old played three games on loan with Partick Thistle just before the coronavirus lockdown and has tasted firstteam action for Rangers in friendly matches.

The centre-back told Rangers TV: “This is huge for me and for my family. I have been at the club since I was seven years old so Rangers is very much home to me.”
