A kind-hearted Forfar youngster has raised almost £1,000 for charity after braving the shave for her cancerstricken neighbour.

Chloe-Anne Carnegie, 12, built up a relationship with Audrey Godfrey during lockdown and asked mum Debbie if she could shave all her hair off in solidarity.

After months of pleading, her mother relented and Audrey herself grabbed the clippers after raising £960.

The Forfar Academy youngster’s effort is part of the nationwide campaign Brave the Shave, launched by Macmillan Cancer Support.

Debbie said the two have similar personalities and quickly struck up a bond during the pandemic.

“We only moved to this part of Forfar a few months ago and in that time got to know Audrey, who has been through a hard time recently with a few difficult years with her health.

“But she has a really positive attitude and is always smiling, which reminds me a lot of Chloe.

“Chloe’s really proud of herself and rightly so, it’s an amazing thing to do and really brave. She’s a good egg. I was worried about her going back to school like that because I know what kids can be like sometimes.

“It’s been fine though and I get the feeling she will want to do something else for charity soon enough.”

Audrey has suffered several strokes in recent years, causing problems with speech, and was dealt another blow when diagnosed with cancer.

She had her first chemotherapy session during lockdown and is now moving on to radiotherapy.

Debbie said: “She seems to be doing really well and we hope she makes a speedy recovery.

“Chloe had set a target of £300 but we’ve ended up with about £1,000 through an online fundraising page and sponsorship.

“It’s a brilliant amount. Shaving her hair doesn’t seem to have fazed her but she’s been shocked at how fast her hair has grown since.

“It’s about life experience too and I think doing something like this to help other people so young can only be a good thing. She’s done it out of the goodness of her own heart.”
