Kelty hold League One side Airdrie in pre-season friendly

There were plenty of goals in Saturday’s pre-season games as local non-league clubs prepared for the new season despite doubts over the start date.

Lowland League champions Kelty Hearts drew 1-1 at home to Airdrieoni­ans with both goals coming within the first 10 minutes of the second half.

The visitors took the lead on 46 minutes when an Ally Roy shot was deflected into the net by Thomas Reilly, but Sabatini brought Dylan Easton down in the box and although Nathan Austin’s penalty was saved by Currie, Kallum Higginboth­am reacted to score the rebound.

Tayport were 9-2 winners over Fauldhouse United. Dayle Robertson scored four, with Bradie Heggie, Greg Breen and Jamie McCabe also scoring, in addition to two own goals.

Newburgh were 2-1 winners at Scone Thistle. Two goals in five minutes midway through the second half from Greg McColm and Ben Scarboroug­h saw the EOSL new boys home.

Burntislan­d Shipyard and Sauchie Juniors shared six goals in an entertaini­ng draw at Recreation Park.

Goals from Reece Brown and Ben Anthony sandwiched an own goal for the Shippy.

Hill of Beath Hawthorn edged out Thornton Hibs 2-1 at Kiers Park with Scott Gibson and Ricky Patrick on the scoresheet for The Haws.

Darren Ormiston scored for the visitors but also missed a penalty.

Glenrothes beat Dundonald Bluebell 2-0 at Warout Stadium with Fionn McLeod Kay and Lea Schiavone the scorers.

Harris Kay has joined Kennoway Star Hearts on loan and he marked his debut with two goals in a 5-0 win over Inverkeith­ing Hillfield Swifts U20s at Treaton Park.

Lee Bryce, Gavin McMillan and Andrew Meldrum added the other goals.

Charlie King took his side to New Victoria Park for a family battle against brother Chris’s Newtongran­ge Star and it was the latter that took bragging rights with a 1-0 win. Dan McBay was the Newtongran­ge scorer.

Crossgates Primrose thrashed Rosyth 8-2 at Humbug Park, with Lewis Payne grabbing a second-half hat-trick.

Jeanfield Swifts started their campaign in style with a 8-0 win over Brechin Vics at Riverside as Chris Dodd scored four, Chris Scott grabbed two and Gary Fergis and Chris McLeish also chipped in.

Chris Anton helped himself to a hat-trick for Luncarty as they ran out comfortabl­e 4-0 winners over Lochee Harp. Craig Mitchell netted the other goal.

Kinnoull and Inverkeith­ing Hillfield Swifts drew 0-0 at Tulloch Park.

Blairgowri­e beat Invergowri­e 5-0 at Davie Park. Gary Axworthy scored twice with the other goals coming from Cammy McManus, Andy Patullo and James Simpson.

Arbroath Vics enjoyed a comfortabl­e 5-1 win over Barnhill at Ogilvy Park.

Struan Christie and Michael Fotheringh­am with two goals each and Ben Starkey were on the mark for Vics.

Carnoustie Panmure lost 5-2 to Forfar Athletic at Station Park. Jordan Allan grabbed a hattrick for the Loons, with Scott Shepherd and a trialist also scoring, while Cammy McMahon and Ryan Dignan counted for the Gowfers.

Broughty Athletic won 4-1 against a Dundee FC XI at Whitton Park. Paul Sludden opened the scoring before Josh Skelly scored twice and Andy Walls added a fourth.

Dundee Violet won 2-1 at home to Fintry, Downfield beat Bank Street Athletic 5-0 at Downfield Park – new signing Sean Tucker scored a hat-trick – Dundee North End went down 4-1 at home to Cowdenbeat­h, and Montrose Roselea beat Forfar West End 1-0 at Broomfield Park.
