Telles and Cavani join Man United

Ma n c h e s t e r United signed Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani and Brazil defender Alex Telles as they moved to strengthen their squad in the wake of Sunday’s 6-1 humiliatio­n by Tottenham.

Cavani, who has signed a one-year contract with the option to extend for a further year, moves to Old Trafford on a free transfer following his release from Paris St Germain.

Cavani said on the club website: “Ma n c h e s t e r United is one of the greatest clubs in the world, so it is a real honour to be here. I’ve worked really hard during the time off and I feel eager to compete and represent this incredible club.

“I have played in front of some of the most passionate suppor ters in football during my career and I know that it will be the same in Manchester. I cannot wait to experience the O ld Tr a f fo rd atmosphere, when it is safe for the fans to return.”

United are understood to h av e agreed a fee of £13.5 million plus £1.8m in potential add-ons with the Portuguese club for leftback Telles.

Telles told his new club’s website: “To join a club with the prestige of Manchester United is a huge honour.

“You have to work hard to get to this moment in your career and now I am coming to this club, I can promise that I will give everything in my heart to be a success here.”

United have also reached an agreement to sign 18-year-old Atalanta winger Amad Diallo, who will join the club in January subject to a medical, personal terms and a work permit, and another w i n g e r, Facundo Pellistri, from Penarol.

In addition, Sochaux cen t re -back W i l ly Kambwala will join the Under-18s squad, while Chr is Sma l l ing has completed a permanent move to Roma.

Arsenal h av e signed Thomas Pa r t e y after Atletico Madrid announced the midfielder’s reported £45m release clause was met by the Gunners with minutes to spare on transfer deadline day.

The 27-year-old Ghana internatio­nal played 35 times last season for Atletico, wh o s ay the Gunners put in a bid that matched his release clause with just 32 minutes remaining in the window.

The Canaries announced they had received a clubrecord fee for Godfrey, whose deal ties him to the Premier League leaders until the end of June 2025.

The 22-year-old made 30 appearance­s for relegated Norwich in the top flight last season.

Leeds signed Rennes winger Raphinha, subject to internatio­nal clearance.

Tottenham allowed Ryan Sessegnon to jo in Bunde s l iga ou t f i t Hoffenheim on loan for the rest of the season, while Wolves defender Ruben Vinagre completed a loan move to Olympiacos.

Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko joined Napoli on loan and Southampto­n allowed Sofiane Boufal and Guido Carrillo to leave on free transfers, to Angers and Elche respective­ly, while defender Wesley Hoedt rejoined Lazio on loan.

Leicester forward Rachid Ghezzal joined Besiktas on a season- long loan and West Ham released Jack Wilshere, bringing to an end an injur y- hit two seasons at the club.
