Blow for Rovers after Musonda is ruled out for start of campaign

-

Raith Rovers have been dealt a major blow with the news that summer signing Frankie Musonda will miss the start of the campaign through injury.

The former Luton Town defender damaged his foot in training and is expected to be sidelined for “a good few weeks”, according to manager John McGlynn.

The 22- year- old was sent for a scan amid fears he may have suffered a fracture, but the tests uncovered no break.

However, the absence of the stopper is a major disappointment for a Rovers side already missing Dave McKay because of a cruciate knee ligament injury.

McGlynn said: “Frankie is going to be out for a good f ew weeks. He injured his foot in training a couple of weeks back.

“He went for an X-ray but thankfully there was no break and he’s slowly improving every day.

“But Friday was the first day he was able to put weight on his foot, which is quite a long time since he did it.

“We’re not putting any particular date on Frankie, but it will be a few weeks.”

Raith have concerns over the fitness of Regan Tumilty, Gozie Ugwu and Fernandy Mendy ahead of their competitive kickoff against neighbours East Fife in the Betfred Cup on Saturday.

However, they have received some positive news on the knee problem hampering midfielder Brad Spencer.

McGlynn said: “Brad had a scan and it has shown up there’s nothing serious with his knee. So, that’s good. He will just continue with his rehab and he should be good to go very soon.”
