Kelty hold off Strollers to claim second victory

Kelty Hearts moved up to sixth in the Lowland League table after beating Civil Service Strollers at Christie Gillies Park.

Strollers took the lead 10 minutes before the break through Alieu Faye but the lead lasted just three minutes before Michael Tidser rifled the ball home from 20 yards to equalise.

Seven minutes into the second half and Hearts were in front after Kallum Higginboth­am scored from the penalty spot when Dylan Easton was brought down, and with 25 minutes left Ross Philp made it 3-1 when he drilled home a cross from Paddy Boyle.

The home side pulled a goal back on 71 minutes and threw everything at Ke l t y looking for an equaliser but the visitors held firm to take their second win of the season.

There are four clubs on nine points from their three games – East Kilbride, Bo’ness United, Bonnyrigg Rose and East Stirlingsh­ire.

In the East of Scotland League Premier Division, Dundonald Bluebell’s 100% record went as they were beaten 2- 0 at home by leaders Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale.

Crossgates Primrose suffered defeat at home by 10-man Tranent at Humbug Park after leading in the first half. Darren Aitken put the Fife side in front on 25 minutes but Kayne Patterson’s deflected shot levelled things up.

Tranent had captain Lewis Hawkins sent off after a second booking but Patterson put them in front on 72 minutes.

Aitken equalised with 15 minutes to go but Tranent notched a last-gasp winner.

Jeanfield Swifts are third in the Premier table after they beat Whitehill Welfare in an eventful game.

Keith Lough put the visitors in front but the sides went in at half-time level following Ma r k Smith’s equaliser. Smith scored his second on 54 minutes and Chris Dodd put Swifts in control as he escaped the defence to score a third on 57 minutes.

Lough pulled a goal back for Welfare a minute later but Taylor Rogan was shown a red card and the punishment was doubled when Swifts ’ Connor McLaren scored from the spot on 69 minutes.

Six minutes later the sides were level in numbers after Fraser Smith was shown a second yellow and was sent off but Smith made it 5-2 on 76 minutes to complete his hat-trick.

Lough turned provider for Tyler O’Neil to score for Welfare but Scott Smith made sure of the points with a sixth for Jeanfield with five minutes to go.

Hill of Beath are fifth after a 2-1 home win over Blackburn United.

Joe Kinninmont­h put Haws in front after 15 minutes and Lyle Kellican added a second just after the half-hour. The visitors pulled a goal back early in the second half but John Mitchell’s side held firm to secure the three points.

Inverkeith­ing Hillfield Swifts were comfortabl­y beaten 3- 0 at home by Penicuik Athletic.

St Andrews United boss Charlie King said there were plenty of positives to take from his side’s First Division Conference A trip to Edinburgh South despite losing 2-0.

He said: “We are disappoint­ed at the result but the performanc­e was good. We created chance after chance but the Edinburgh keeper was in excellent form.”

Kennoway Star Hearts’ good start to the season ended in defeat to Edinburgh United at Paties Road with Lee Richardson’s side going down 1-0 to an early goal.

Hearts were reduced to 10 men just after the hour mark when Brooklyn Mair was sent off.

Kirkcaldy & Dysart were another Fife side to taste defeat as they lost 2-0 to Craigroyst­on at home.

Rosyth lost away from home to Ormiston.

The visitors took an early lead through Tam Hampson but failed to take advantage of a number of chances then suffered when goals on 68 and 76 minutes from Brandon Mc G i l l saw

Ormiston take the points.

Thornton Hibs made it three wins on the spin, winning 5-0 at Tweedmouth to go top of the table on goal difference from Edinburgh United.

Garry Thomson was the star for Craig Gilbert’s side, scoring four with Darren Ormiston also netting.

In Con ference B Newburgh bounced back from their midweek defeat to Stirling University as they won 4-2 at Burntislan­d Shipyard.

Shippy took an early lead through Sandy Strang but goals from Scott Sutherland in 44 minutes and Jamie Gay in stoppage time saw Burgh go in 2-1 in front.

Ben Anthony equalised for the home side but w ith in 60 seconds Newburgh were back in front through Sutherland. The Burgh man put the game beyond doubt when he completed his hat-trick.

Kinnoull made it two from two as they beat Easthouses Lily 3-0 at Tulloch Park with goals from Alan Cunningham, Ben Ragen and Dale Smart.

Lochge l ly A lbe r t recorded their first win of the season by beating Hawick Royal Albert 3-2 at Gardiners Park.

Albert led 3- 0 at the break thanks to goals from Sami Mitchell, Stephen Stark and Darren Clegg.

Two goals from Hawick made things interestin­g but Albert held on.

Lochore Welfare are still winless after going down 5-2 at home to Peebles Rovers at Central Park. Aaron Wood and Kellar Harris were the scorers for Lochore, who had Sean Cusick sent off.

Luncarty beat Preston Athletic at Brownlands Park with the only goal of the game coming from Craig Mitchell.

Oakley United made it tw o wins from their opening two games as they won 3-0 at Stirling University. Stuart Love scored twice and Craig Martin also netted.
