Descriptio­n of city sex assault suspect is released by police

Police have released a descriptio­n of a man suspected of carrying out a serious sexual assault in Dundee.

A 33- year- old woman was attacked on Friday as she walked along Derwent Avenue sometime between 11 and 11.50pm.

They said the suspect is white, aged between 30 and 50 and of stocky build.

Detective Inspector Keith Anderson said a “significan­t number of inquiries” are being carried out in order to identify the man responsibl­e.

He said: “Specialist officers have been carrying out house -to -house inquiries and they are studying CCTV footage from in and around the area to gather additional informatio­n.

“This is a busy residentia­l area and we are extremely keen to seek the assistance of the public.

“I am urging anyone who was in the area of Derwent Avenue late on Friday night and who saw anyone acting suspicious­ly, or who has any informatio­n that may help our investigat­ion, to contact us as soon as possible.”

Those who were driving in the area at the time have been urged to come forward with any informatio­n, however small.

Police are particular­ly interested in drivers who have dashcam footage.

Officers are working closely with the woman, ensuring she is receiving the support needed.

Patrols have been stepped up in and around the area over the weekend to provide some comfort to the shocked community.

DI Anderson added: “This crime will no doubt be of concern to the local community, however I would like to reassure local residents that this is an isolated incident.

“We have additional officers patrolling the area, and anyone with concerns should have no hesitation in speaking to them.”

A large grassy area near Balgowan Avenue a nd Derwent Avenue was cordoned off on Friday night and into the weekend with officers in attendance and CID assessing the scene.

Those living locally spoke of their shock upon seeing the heavy police presence on Saturday morning.
