Old pal’s help is Par for the course says Murray

Euan Murray has revealed that Dom Thomas delivered his player of the month award – after teeing up all his goals.

The Dunfermline skipper claimed the Championship gong for October after finding the net six times in all competitions.

Boss Stevie Crawford picked up the manager’s prize after leading the Pars to a 100% record last month, ensuring a dream double for the Fifers.

However, Murray was keen to shift the plaudits towards his team-mates, particularly Thomas , whose deadly deliveries have provided a constant supply line.

Murray said: “I was dreading the photographers doing a picture of him delivering me the award – but they did it, so I’m cringing at that!

“No, you are only as good as your team-mates and Dom has been unbelievable ever sense we initially got him in on loan last season. I’ve always had a very good relationship with Dom, on and off the park, and the connection has just worked.

“I feel confident that I can get on the end of things when he is putting in deliveries. He has been on the money all season and that makes my life a lot easier.”

Murray revealed their prolific partnership has been more than a decade in the making, with the pair thick as thieves as they emerged through the youth ranks at Motherwell.

He continued: “I grew up with Dom, we were at Motherwell together and I’ve known him since he was maybe 14.

“We came into the first team together and is someone I ’ve always chatted with over the years.

“I was delighted when he came to the club on loan last season because I know what he is all about and what he can do. It was a real coup to get him here on a permanent basis.”

Boss Crawford, fresh from receiving his award, admitted that he would have happily shunned the recognition if it meant turning last Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Ayr United into a victory.

He said: “I’m delighted for Euan Murray to be recognised but, in terms of myself, I’d swap this for another three points last weekend. However, it does bring a little more positivity towards the club and gets people talking about what we are working towards as a team.” a hell of
