Cowden rebound plans put on hold

-

Cowdenbeath’s plans to get their League 2 campaign back on the winning track had to be put on hold on Saturday.

The Central Pa r k side’s clash with Albion Rovers was postponed just a few hours before kick-off.

Rovers had to pull out of their Betfred Cup sectional game at Hamilton the previous Saturday, but had hoped to be able to face the Blue Brazil in Fife.

Ho w e v e r, due to continuing Covid-19 prob lems at the Coatbridge club, they had to also pull out of the league clash.

Cowden secretary David Allan said: “Rovers informed the SPFL that they could not fulfil the fixture on Saturday morning, so we found out at around 10am that there was to be no game.

“Albion reported that due to seven players and staff testing positive for Covid-19, and several other players self isolating, they had insufficient players to fulfil the fixture.

“As a result, and in line with standard procedure, the SPFL postponed the fixture pending an investigation into the events at Albion Rovers.”

It was a big blow to the Blue Brazil who had hoped to get their league season back on the rails on Saturday after defeat at Stranraer in their last match.

Allan added: “We will now have to wait to find out what happens with the Albion fixture as it cannot be played before the investigation into the situation which led to Saturday ’s postponement.

“It was a big blow to us and very frustrating for the players who had hoped to get our league season back on the rails after the disappointing defeat at Stranraer in the last match”.

Gary Bollan’s side sit third bottom on four points after four games – one point ahead of joint bottom pair Albion Rovers and Brechin City.
