Full list of St Andrews University graduands
St Andrews University is hosting two days of virtual celebrations for the graduating class of 2020. More than 1,000 students from more than 80 countries will take part in the online ceremonies as they are beamed live via the university’s website.
Principal and vicechancellor Professor Sally Mapstone will preside as undergraduate and postgraduate degrees are conferred and prizes awarded.
Dr Leyla Hussein has recorded a special message for the class of 2020 in her first official engagement as the newly elected university rector.
Fellow students, friends and family will also share special messages on social media using #Saints2020 during the winter graduation ceremonies.
Students have been invited to recreate their own garden parties and a slice of St Andrews wherever they are in the world. The virtual winter graduation ceremonies will also include, for the first time, a live stream service of worship in St Salvator’s Chapel.
The Re v Dr Donald MacEwan will give the address, while music will be provided by choral and organ students.
The class of 2020 will return to St Andrews to take part in graduation ceremonies and celebrate with friends and family in person in June next year.
Two ceremonies will take place today, at 10.30am and 2pm.
The university provided online learning as well as some in-person teaching this term and students were asked to adhere to government guidance.
It has now begun a mass Covid testing of students to allow thousands to return home safely to their families for Christmas.
