Cyclist dies and body is found in search

A 69-year-old has died after taking unwell while cycling in Perthshire.

And in Angus, the search for a missing pensioner ended in tragedy when a body was found near Letham.

The man became ill while cycling on the C410 road between Stanley and Kinclaven yesterday afternoon.

A Police Scotland spokespers­on said: “We became aware of a 69-year-old man having taken unwell while cycling on the road between Stanley and Kinclaven in Perthshire after 12.25pm on Friday February 26.

“The Scottish Ambulance Service attended but the man was pronounced dead a short time later.

“His next of kin are aware and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”

The tragic discovery of the Angus body was made shortly before 3pm yesterday.

Ian Chrystall, who is 83, went missing from his Letham home around lunchtime yesterday.

This sparked an intensive police search.

Sadly, Police Scotland confirmed the discovery of a body at Vinny Den shortly before 3pm.

Police said inquiries are ongoing to formally identify the body, but Mr Chrystall’s family have been informed.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Forfar and a water rescue unit to assist with the search operation.

A Police Scotland spokespers­on said: “Around 12.45pm on Friday February 26, police were called after 83-year-old Ian Chrystall was reported missing from an address in Letham village, near Forfar.

“Around 2.40pm this afternoon, the body of a man was found at Vinny Den, Letham.

“Inquiries are ongoing.”
