Brewer gives Scots fans chance to continue glove story with Marshall

-

Scottish football fans can soon raise a toast to hero goalkeeper David Marshall in honour of his penalty save against Serbia that sent the nation on the way to a first major men’s tournament in 23 years.

The goalkeeper’s match-worn gloves are to form part of a display at the Tennent’s Story at the brewing company’s visitor centre in Glasgow.

The installation marks a new partnership between Tennent’s Lager and the Scottish FA, with the deal announced as Steve Clarke’s squad begins its qualification campaign for the 2022 World Cup with matches against Austria, Israel and the Faroe Islands.

The new partnership will see Tennent’s support the Scotland men’s and women’s national teams, with the immediate prospect of hosting matches at Hampden during Euro 2020.

This summer’s tournament will also coincide with the projected re-opening of Scotland’s pubs following the disruption of Covid-19, with fans set to come together once more to cheer on the national team.

Marshall said: “All the players know what it means to the nation to have qualified for Euro 2020 and I’m really proud of the part I played in the team’s success. For me, the gloves I wore that night will always be a reminder of that final penalty – and let’s not forget the VAR check afterwards.”

Tennent’s senior brand manager, Cameron Matthews, said: “We wanted to go give fans the chance to toast an iconic piece of Scottish football history – his match gloves.”
