Young reckons Fifers have what it takes to pull off a cup shock

-

East Fife boss Darren Young believes his side has what it takes to beat Championship outfit Morton and book a spot in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup.

The League Fifers welcome Gus McPherson’s side to Bayview this afternoon and Young feels his squad contains enough talent to provide a cup shock.

Young said: “We have tried to be as prepared as we can for a tough test against a full-time team in a league above us. We have not been able to look too far ahead, but I have had a team in my head for the game for a while now.

“It is going to be a really tough challenge but I firmly believe the players are good enough to be able to put in a performance to get a positive result.

“We have hopefully been able to manage the players game time so not to burn them out in the past couple of weeks.”

Young added: “It will be a welcome distraction from a hectic league schedule and helps to take the attention away from that for a couple of days.”

“We are comfortable with being classed as underdogs but we are in a position now where we have two players available for each 1

position. That gives us a bit more strength in depth and shows that we can make changes without weakening.

“We spoke about it before the Clyde game on Thursday that we are confident in them all to come in and perform.

“It was good to give the young guys like Miller Fenton and Cole McKinnon their first start in the professional game and I thought they played their part in what was a tremendous team performance and a good 1-0 win.

“We were just a bit disappointed that we did not take a few more chances. Danny Swanson is only just coming back from injury and I felt he was also outstanding.

“He has that quality and the challenge for him and us is trying to get that consistently from him, but he has set a standard.”
