RAITH CLASH WITH AYR POSTPONED DUE TO COVID

-

Ayr United have succeeded in having their Championship clash with Raith Rovers postponed due to coronavirus.

With a number of Covid cases and other players having to selfisolate, the Honest Men asked the SPFL for the call-off because they were unable to field a team.

Three Somerset Park players sat out the trip to Inverness Caley Thistle at the weekend, with a further three reportedly returning positive test results earlier this week.

The Ayrshire outfit have shut down their training base and club shop and ordered office staff to work from home until next week in a bid to prevent the outbreak from getting worse.

An SPFL spokesman said: “After reviewing the information provided by Ayr United, Saturday’s match between Ayr United and Raith Rovers has been postponed and a further update will be provided in due course.”

It means Raith Rovers will be without a match in three weeks following the abandonment of last Friday’s Fife derby against Dunfermline due to lighting failure.

Tomorrow’s League One meeting between Airdrie and Alloa Athletic has also been postponed because of Covid-19.

Meanwhile, Peter Grant insists Dunfermline can take confidence from their derby display – despite the match being cut short after just 13 minutes.

Despite the Stark’s Park clash being abandoned, Grant believes his players can still take heart ahead of the visit of Arbroath.

He said: “Of course, the players can take confidence from the Raith game. The previous week it was the performance (that was disappointing). The result you can handle, and the Old Firm have shown in the last few weeks that they can beat people 5-0 and 6-0.

“It was just the way that we went about our business against Rangers, not starting properly – but look at that 15 minutes against Raith compared to the week prior.

“I thought we started well but it is only a start. We are expecting that for 90 minutes. Whenever you play a game of football you have to be able to fight and scratch, and hopefully your football is going to take over.”
