Bring colours of autumn into your home’s decor

Autumn is fast approaching. And while that may sadly mean the end of heatwaves, sun tans and garden barbecues, the colours of turning leaves and fading daylight are great inspiration when it comes to interior design

-

In fact, autumnal hues and home decor are somewhat of a match made in heaven. From soft furnishings and wall art, to fairy lights and patterned wallpaper, there is so much interior fun to be had at this time of year.

Read on for some advice on how to transform the most relaxing rooms in your house into autumnal havens of warmth and comfort.

Transform your bedroom

When you think of autumnal colours, chances are red, orange and yellow will come to mind. But any tone which is warm and rich is perfect for this time of year – even blues and greens can work!

Bedrooms are the perfect place to transform as the days begin to get colder. Swap out your summer duvet for something thicker, and replace your bedding with a dark shade of blue or green for a dramatic change of atmosphere.

Layer with piles of textured cushions in warm reds, oranges and browns to complement the darker tones and add instant warmth to your boudoir.

Throws and cosy blankets are so easy to come by and are ideal for completing the look of any dressed bed. Add chic points by layering up a couple of different coloured blankets and, as with the cushions, go for different textures and patterns.

Chunky knitted blankets in dark browns and oranges are perfect for the cooler months of the year.

And, as the daylight is going to fade, add some autumnal ambience to your bedroom with dimmable lamps, candles and strings of fairy lights on and around your furnishings. Talk about an autumnal paradise…

Warm up your living room

As temperatures drop outside, add warmth to your living room with rugs, throws and soft furnishings such as beanbags and floor cushions.

And just like your bedroom, by sticking to the same colour palette for each, but mixing up patterns and textures, the space will instantly feel vibrant, yet cohesive and cosy.

Patterned wallpaper is great for tying together the warm tones of your living room while bringing the autumnal feeling of the outdoors into your own home; muted florals and leafy designs are perfect for this time of year.

And try swapping out your living room lampshade with one which complements your wallpaper of choice.

Do you have a fireplace? Autumn is one of the best times of year to get creative with ornaments and mantel decorations.

Indeed, there is nothing quite like sitting by a warm, festive fire on a cool autumnal evening. And as it is such a popular place to be, it’s worth putting some thought into how it looks! From felt pumpkin garlands to autumn leaf wreaths and extravagant foliage, autumn mantels have a wealth of potential. You could go classic with candles and chic vases, or mix things up with unusual artwork – in keeping with your autumn hues of choice – or even with some quirky vintage finds.

Whatever your interior taste, the gorgeous colours and textures of autumn are enough to spark anyone’s interior inspiration.

Which of your rooms will you transform first?
