Fifers’ delight as they bag first three points

Darren Young could barely hide his delight after watching his East Fife side win their first three points of the season.

The hosts struck three times after the interval to convincingly see off their visitors.

The margin of the scoreline, though, was perhaps harsh on Jim McInally’s side who hit the woodwork three times in the first 45 minutes.

But it was East Fife’s day and goals from Kevin Smith, Connor McManus and Danny Denholm secured the win.

Young said: “I thought we were brilliant. We had to dig in during the first half and had spoken before the game about getting clean sheets and being hard to beat.

“Scott Gallacher had a great save which he put on to the post and then they hit the bar as well but, defensively, I thought we looked pretty solid.

“That was from front to back because we’d asked Kevin Smith and Jamie Semple to put in a shift for us and they did that brilliantly.

“That then allows the midfielders to match up in the middle.

“I’m really, really happy with the clean sheet and the three points. There were some really big performances from the players.”

Peterhead could consider themselves unlucky not to be ahead at the interval but they came up against a completely different East Fife side after the break.

Whatever Young tweaked during the interval had an immediate effect and the Fifers were ahead seconds into the second half.

A Jamie Semple cross was fired home by Fife skipper Smith from close range before Semple was tripped inside the box by Jason Brown and McManus made it 2-0 from the penalty spot.

East Fife just had to see the game out and sub Andrew Osei-Bonsu beat his man before supplying Denholm to net number three.
