Comets chief Hartmann relishing return to ice

-

Dundee Comets head coach Richard Hartmann says he can’t wait to get back to action as the team look ahead to the 2021-22 season.

After such a long lay-off, things are being prepared behind the scenes as the Comets look forward to hitting the ice for the first time since before Coronavrius pandemic hit in March 2020.

Leading the way is head coach Hartmann, who will finally get the chance to take charge after being first being announced as taking over at the club last August.

“It’s been such a long time off for everyone,” he said.

“Now that we know there are games coming up, the excitement around the Comets is building.

“The team I’m putting together will have 75% of Dundee boys who have gone through the junior development program and I’m eager to see what they’ll do for us this year.

“We’ll announce the players in due course so the fans can look forward to seeing how we look before we return to action.”

Comets have accepted the invitation to play in the NIHL North Cup this season where they’ll come up against Solway Sharks, Billingham Stars and Whitley Warriors.

The first of those games is on Saturday September 25 when Comets will make the trip to Dumfries to take on the Sharks. The rest of the games will take place throughout November as Dundee pit themselves against some good NIHL opposition.

Hartmann, pictured, added: “I’m pleased we committed to the NIHL Cup and gives us much needed game time ahead of the SNL season.

“Our focus right now is that first game against Solway in a few weeks and we’re already working towards it and getting things in place.

“I want to invite the fans to come along and support the local boys to give them some much needed support as we find our way back.

“It’ll be great to see everyone when the time comes.”
