Dundee harbour has been a trading post for hundreds of years.

The port is estimated to be over 800 years old and is one of the reasons why Dundee expanded to become a city. At one time there were ships moored just behind the Caird Hall, but these old docks were infilled to allow the Tay Road Bridge to be built in the 1960’s. Where Slessor Gardens are today would have been water less than 100 years ago!

The modern Port of Dundee has river berths that run from City Quay towards Broughty Ferry. We no longer import jute (although some of our stevedores claim to fame is unloading the final jute boat) and shipbuilding is but a distant memory. However the port has continued to grow and evolve and today we are involved across a broad range of sectors, ranging from construction to agriculture and cruise. The most visible activity we have are the drilling rigs that can sometimes fill the Dundee skyline.

There are lots of different and interesting things that are happening in the Port of Dundee and we hope that the construction of offshore wind farms will start a new and green industrial revolution for the city. This is why we are building a better port which includes a new quayside that will last long into the future hopefully even into the next century and beyond.

We feel it is important our new quayside is named by our local school pupils, because it is being built to ensure the future of the port.

This is where we need YOUR help.
