CRIME: Second Fife sex attack reported on the same day

A teenage girl has been raped in woodlands in Kirkcaldy.

Police have launched an investigation after the victim – whose age has not been confirmed – was attacked near Oriel Woods on Monday night.

An area of woodland was cordoned off by police yesterday, with a police car and officer standing guard throughout the day.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We received a report of a serious sexual assault involving a teenage girl that happened near Oriel Woods, Kirkcaldy, around 9.30pm on Monday.

“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and officers are following a positive line of inquiry.”

It was the second sex attack reported in Fife on the same day. Police are also investigating reports a woman was sexually assaulted in Dunfermline in the early hours of Monday.

Police are investigating the reported rape of a teenage girl at a wooded area in Kirkcaldy. Officers are looking into claims that the girl – whose age has not been confirmed – was attacked near Oriel Woods on Monday night.

Part of the area, in the west of the town, was cordoned off for most of yesterday as an investigation took place.

The woods are a popular destination for walkers and cyclists.

A single police car was at the scene with an officer standing guard.

The site was still reportedly taped off yesterday evening.

The reported rape in Kirkcaldy comes shortly after a woman was sexually assaulted in Dunfermline.

The incident happened in the early hours of Monday at Pittencrieff Park – with a police forensics team seen combing the area throughout the day.

Police said a 42-year-old woman reported being the victim of a sexual assault just before 12.30am.

The suspect being sought in connection with the Dunfermline incident is described as a man of slim build, who is in his early to mid-20s, and about 6ft tall with dark hair.
