Marc Petrie has quit as Arbroath skipper after nine years at the helm.

The former Scotland wicketkeeper/batsman led the Lochlands club to a first-ever Scottish Cup success in 2015.

And in their most successful season of all time, Petrie masterminded their Eastern Premier title triumph before going on to lead them to CS Grand Final glory.

Petrie made his decision to stand down following the final Saturday of this season’s campaign when the club finished a creditable sixth with an entirely homegrown squad.

He said: “I will always be grateful for the opportunities and the great times AUCC and the people of the club has given me during my time as captain.

“I was only 23 when I took over and never did I imagine I’d still be doing it into my 30’s. The last nine years has given me, without doubt, the best times and memories in my cricket career.

“I will continue to play (if selected) and hopefully contribute to many more wins and a couple more trophies before I hang up the boots (or gloves) and am now looking forward to it as a player.

“I am proud of what I’ve achieved as skipper and what we’ve achieved as a team and club.”
