Frustration after late goal ends Forfar run

-

Forfar Athletic boss Gary Irvine was left frustrated as his side saw their unbeaten start in cinch League 2 come to an end in the Forthbank sunshine on Saturday.

Substitute Dylan Bikey scored the only goal with nine minutes left, as the Binos leapfrogged the Loons to go third in the table with their third straight league win.

There was never much between the teams, but Bikey steered the ball home for his first goal of the season after Adam Cummins had nodded a Kurtis Roberts corner into his path.

Irvine, who takes his team to Cowdenbeath this weekend, said: “It’s a sore one to lose a goal so late in the game.

“I felt we were pushing to get the winner and conceding from a setpiece sends me home frustrated as well.

“The last three weeks I’ve been saying the same interview in that we are creating chances but not taking them.

“I have real belief in the squad I’ve put together.

“We had a good start in the Premier Sports Cup and we started the league with a couple of wins, but we’ve had a few draws recently when we might have won.

“It’s frustrating again because this is a game we could have taken something from.”

Forfar almost took the lead inside two minutes when Craig Slater’s 25-yard drive was touched on to the post by Blair Currie.

At the other end Marc McCallum made fine saves from Dale Carrick and Dylan Mackin.

The best chance of the match fell to the Station Park side on the hour mark when a defensive slip allowed Craig Thomson to go one-onone with Currie, but the keeper saved his shot.

Roberts came close for the Binos, but they got the goal when Bikey struck, moving Albion to within two points of leaders Kelty Hearts.
