Kerr eager to wear dark blue vest in 2022
Olympic medallist Josh Kerr is eager to run for Scotland at next year’s Commonwealth Games.
The knock-on effect of the delayed Olympics will make the summer of 2022 a busy time for athletes with the World Championships taking place a year later than scheduled.
The Oregon event comes before the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, which almost immediately precede the European Championships in Berlin.
The three tournaments take place over the course of five weeks during July and August but middle-distance runner Kerr – pictured – has set his sights on wearing the dark blue vest.
The American-based 23-yearold, who won bronze in the 1,500 metres in Tokyo, said on scottishathletics.org.uk: “I’d say I would like to race in at least two of the big championship events next summer.
“I’ve never run at the Commonwealth Games and hopefully will be selected by Team Scotland. I just love major championship running. I would love to run a Commonwealth Games. Those are the kinds of things when growing up – and competing in Scottish age group champs or whatever – that you are looking towards and wanting to be involved in.
“It would be a really cool thing to do to wear a Scotland vest. I’ve not been home for a very long time so Birmingham 2022 is a big goal for next summer.
“It is pretty much the same as a World Champs except we don’t have the Americans and the Norwegians – I will just have to deal with the Kenyans in the 1,500m.”
