Hammers show how it’s done as Foxes and Spurs settle for a point

-

West Ham announced themselves on the Europa League stage as goals from Michail Antonio and Declan Rice secured a 2-0 Group H victory at Dinamo Zagreb.

The Hammers’ very own Ant and Dec provided the tea-time entertainment in Croatia by finding the net either side of half-time.

Antonio latched on to a loose pass back, poked the ball past stranded keeper Dominik Livakovic and from a tight angle rolled it into an empty net.

Rice doubled the lead with a maiden European goal following a trademark surging run five minutes into the second half.

He burst through a challenge on the halfway line and charged forward before lashing a shot through Livakovic’s legs as the Hammers made an impressive start to their European campaign.

Victor Osimhen denied Leicester the perfect start in the Europa League as Napoli hit back from 2-0 down to snatch a point.

The striker struck twice in the second half as the visitors deservedly grabbed a 2-2 draw in Group C at the King Power Stadium.

Ayoze Perez gave the Foxes the lead, volleying in a Harvey Barnes cross

The home side then had to regroup as the visitors took control. A reshuffle by boss Brendan Rodgers had the desired effect when Barnes drilled home into the corner of the net past Napoli keeper David Ospina.

The Italians had paid the price for their profligacy but they pulled a goal back in style with 21 minutes left.

A slick move ended with Osimhen holding off Jannik Vestergaard and lifting the ball over Kasper Schmeichel from six yards.

Osimhen netted again with three minutes left to level, heading in Matteo Politano’s cross from eight yards.

Leicester’s Wilfred Ndidi was dismissed in stoppage time after being shown a second yellow card.

Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo is cursing his “terrible” luck after his side suffered more injury problems in the 2-2 Europa Conference League draw at Rennes.

Spurs lost Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura to injury and with Son Heung-min already battling a calf issue, Nuno is looking short of options for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Chelsea.

On a tough evening in France, in arguably their hardest assignment of their Group G stage, the Portuguese saw his side go ahead early on through a Loic Bade own goal before the French team hit back either side of half-time through Flavian Tait and Gaetan Laborde.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s leveller earned Spurs a point.
