It’s never too late to make a change
In today’s society, people often feel that their 20s are for finding – and establishing themselves in – an appropriate career path.
Similarly, our 30s are often considered to be the time for climbing to the top of organisation charts, or reaching the summit of the corporate ladder.
But then what?
If we reach our career peak in our 30s, what scope is there for the next 30 years until we retire? Indeed, with the retirement age rising, workers now have more time to make changes dramatic changes when it comes to their jobs. So, what’s stopping you?
Careers in Depth have identified a change in the career landscape in recent years; it has become more fluid and more flexible. The way our parents worked – getting a job, working at the same company until retirement – is now at odds with how most people want to live their lives.
Work shouldn’t stifle
On average, people will work more than 90,000 hours in their lifetime. The thought of spending that amount of time doing something which brings you down or stifles your energy is surely unthinkable.
Alas, a survey conducted by London Business School showed that nearly half of the thousand workers questioned were unhappy in their current roles.
Find the right fit
If you are feeling unmotivated by your job and are longing for a change, make one.
Take time to think about what you want from your job; talk to someone you trust, perhaps a career consultant, or even a friend or family member, and get to know yourself better. Establishing what you want in life is essential for finding the right fit for you. And the longer you have lived – the more experience you have – the more likely you are to know exactly what that is. That’s why it’s never too late.
