SUTTON SENDS OUT GRIFFITHS WARNING

-

John Sutton admits Leigh Griffiths left him “sick” on derby day in Edinburgh – but would love his one-time enemy to become the darling of Dundee fans.

Sutton will never forget how former Hibs idol Griffiths sparked a stirring comeback for Pat Fenlon’s side during their 2-1 victory over city rivals Hearts back in May 2013.

Griffiths struck a stunning 30-yard free-kick which sparked scenes of wild jubilation among the Hibs faithful as hosts Hearts were powerless to prevent a defeat.

Now, former Dens Park and Jambos striker Sutton reckons on-loan Celtic star Griffiths can put the Tangerines to the sword tomorrow.

Sutton, who was on target the last time Dundee won at Tannadice in a 2-1 win back in 2004, said: “Leigh left me sick that day. There’s no other words to describe that feeling of losing a derby. It was an unbelievable strike from about 30 yards. Jamie MacDonald didn’t have a chance, which tells you all about the quality.

“It triggered Hibs’ comeback and we ended up losing to a last-minute goal after initially taking the lead.

“Leigh is a master of those situations. He’ll fancy his chances from that distance on Sunday if he gets half a chance. So I’m sure Dundee United will be wary of giving away any needless fouls around the penalty area. I wouldn’t be surprised if he does something special on Sunday.”

Dundee winger Declan McDaid, 25, is set to join Falkirk on loan. The 25-yearold had been set to join Partick Thistle last season but that was cancelled after the lower leagues resumption was delayed and McDaid caught the eye in training.
