Blairgowrie facing cup battle against Premier Division side Benburb

-

West Of Scotland League Premier Division side Benburb are the visitors to Davie Park to take on Blairgowrie in the Scottish Junior Cup today.

The visitors are 11th in the Premier Division with five wins and will be tough second round opponents for Mark Brash’s side but Blairgowrie have nothing to lose in a game that will be their last at home on grass as work has commenced on their new 3G surface.

Brash expects to have a squad of 17 available for the game.

Tayport were in the north for their first round tie against Forres Thistle and following the 6-0 victory at Logie Park the reward was another trip, this time in the opposite direction to WOSL Conference B side Gartcairn.

Port boss Chris Macpherson is set to bring back Kris Rollo for what will be a tough game.

One of the highlights of Scone Thistle’s season so far was the first round 4-2 win over New Elgin at Farquharson Park and the reward for that is this afternoon’s trip to take on Glasgow Perthshire at Keppoch Park. Thistle boss Willie Laing is hoping to have a full squad available for the trip west.

Letham were involved in an incredible game at Dufftown in the first round that ended 4-4 at full-time, with the Perth side winning 4-3 on penalties and they were rewarded with their first home Junior Cup tie against Muirkirk at home. The WOSL outfit are fifth in Conference A and it will be a tough ask if Letham are to make it in to the third round.

In the East of Scotland League, Premier Division Crossgates Primrose dumped on-form Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts out of the Alex Jack Cup to halt a run of three league games without a win.

This afternoon Alan Campbell’s side make the trip to New Murrayfield Park to face Blackburn United.

Swifts will travel south with the same squad that were beaten by Crossgates last weekend.

Dundonald Bluebell are in danger of losing touch with the pack-chasing Penicuik and Tranent if they don’t start winning games but face a major task as they host second placed Penicuik Athletic at Moorside Park.

As both Newtongrange Star and Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale are involved in Scottish Cup replays, their scheduled games at Hill of Beath and Jeanfield respectively have been postponed.

In the First Division Conference A, St Andrews United continue their rebuilding process under manager Barry Cockburn as they make the long trip south to take on Coldstream at Home Park.

The big game in Conference A is at Treaton Park where Kennoway Star Hearts

host fellow Fifers Rosyth in a derby.

Hearts boss Lee Richardson will be hoping his side can bounce back to keep their title challenge on course after losing to Luncarty last week.

Thornton Hibs, who lost 12-1 against Bo’ness Athletic last week, have more player options today as they face Tweedmouth.

In Conference B Kinnoull will be looking to keep up the pressure on the teams above them as they face Edinburgh South at Kings Park, and Glenrothes will be targeting another three points as they welcome struggling Newburgh to Warout Stadium.

Lochgelly Albert face Preston Athletic at Purves Park, while injury-hit Luncarty welcome Stirling

University to rural Perthshire.

Oakley United host Hawick Royal Albert while Conference B leaders Lochore Welfare are on their travels to face Peebles Rangers.

Kirkcaldy & Dysart go up against Fauldhouse United in the Second Round of the King Cup and hope to be able to include a recent new signing.
