Revealed: £58.5m high school plans take shape
These images show how the new Perth High School will look when it is completed in 2024. New pictures have been issued of the building which will be built in the grounds of the existing school in Oakbank Road.
They were released as suggestions were sought for naming a new primary school also to be built in the city to replace North Muirton and Balhousie primary schools.
In a letter to parents sharing the computergenerated images, Perth High School head teacher Martin Shaw said: “I know for many of us the project still seems quite far off, but these really do start to bring it to life.”
The £58.5 million school – a three-storey, triangular building – is planned to be one of the most environmentally-friendly in Scotland.
Construction is expected to begin in the spring of next year. Demolition of the old school and external works are likely to take a further year.
Both the new secondary school and the £16.5m primary school in north Perth will also be built to high energy-efficiency standards.
Planning permission was granted in May for the twostorey school in the grounds of North Muirton Primary School, due to open in April 2023.
Parents, pupils, staff and the wider community have been asked to suggest a name. A survey launched on Friday will run until October 15.
They will be asked to vote for the title from a shortlist and the winning name – subject to approval by Perth and Kinross Council lifelong learning committee – will be announced on January 19.
A new uniform, vision, value and aims will also be developed.
Perth & Kinross Council confirmed a full planning application for the new high school has been submitted.
It added: “The application will now be assessed in line with the normal planning process; and there will be an opportunity for public comment on the plans as part of the process.”
