CURLING

Perth curlers Duncan McFadzean and Robin Brydone tasted their first defeat in 12 matches after Ross Whyte’s team was beaten in the final of the Okotoks Classic in Alberta.

The young Scots had won last week’s Fall Classic in Ontario and stayed on target for back-to-back Canadian titles when they overcame Dutchman Jaap van Dorp 6-3 in Sunday’s semi-finals. An historic tartan hat-trick beckoned, following Bruce Mouat’s victory in Oakville, but Calgary’s double world champion Kevin Koe had other ideas in the final. Twos at the second and fourth ends gave Koe’s rink a handy lead before a steal at the fifth completed a 5-1 win.
