Late goals break Hill of Beath hearts and send Penicuik into top spot

-

Hill of Beath Hawthorn’s new management team of Jason and Lee Dair looked to be heading towards a perfect start at Eastern Premier Division joint-leaders Penicuik Athletic – but were left to just take the positives from a 2-1 defeat.

Haws took a 41stminute lead through Michael Watt and it wasn’t until five minutes from the end that Penicuik equalised through Ryan Baptie.

Two minutes later, Kieran Watson broke Fife hearts with the winner for the hosts that takes them top of the league ahead of Tranent.

An impressive performance from Jeanfield Swifts saw Ross Gunnion’s side come from behind to beat Camelon 5-2 at Carmuirs Park.

Mitch Taylor gave Camelon the lead a minute before half-time, but Swifts came out for the second half flying and went ahead through a Connor McLaren double.

Camelon equalised before a Jake Dolzanski brace saw Jeanfield take control, with Chris Dodds putting the icing on the cake with No 5.

With Tynecastle beating Blackburn United, it was an important three points for Crossgates Primrose at home to Dunbar United, as Alan Campbell’s side remain sixth.

Jamie Devlin gave Dunbar the lead, but Archie Campbell’s equaliser on 44 minutes saw the sides go in at half-time level. A Sean Robertson own goal saw the visitors go back in front, but Scott Lawrie scored Crossgates’ second equaliser and struck the winner from the spot with seven minutes left.

It was a poor afternoon for Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts as they made it five games without a win with a 4-0 defeat at home to Musselburgh Athletic.

Dundonald Bluebell travelled to Albyn Park for the final game of the Scottish Groundhop to take on Broxburn Athletic in what was the first game since the departure of Kevin Fotheringham.

It was a positive outcome for the Fife side as Elliot Ford’s secondhalf goal was enough to give Bluebell a vital three points

In First Division Conference A, Kirkcaldy & Dysart’s 4-2 defeat at home to Edinburgh United leaves them seven points behind the leaders. Kirkcaldy’s scorers were John Smith and Jay Bridgeford.

Rosyth were beaten 4-1 by leaders Haddington Athletic at The Fleet Grounds, Callum Strang grabbing the Fife side’s consolation goal.

Thornton Hibs’ recent run of bad results continued as they were beaten 3-1 at home by Coldstream. Fergus Mackie scored the Hibs goal after 17 minutes.

Without doubt St Andrews United are going through a period of transition, but losing 10-0 to Leith Athletic is unlikely to be acceptable for new manager Barry Cockburn.

Kayne Patterson scored four including the first after just 30 seconds, Martin Maughan and Keith Murray both scored twice, with Hand and Simpson adding the others.

In Conference B, Luncarty slipped back in the chase for the title after Robbie Holden’s men were held 1-1 at strugglers Hawick Royal Albert. Kyle Green scored for the Bleachers on 79 minutes.

Kinnoull were down to the bare bones against Burntisland Shipyard at Tulloch Park, but still had enough to comfortably win 4-0. Rhys Davies scored yet another hattrick as the Perthshire men went fourth in the table

Strugglers Newburgh took a point from an entertaining 3-3 draw with Lochgelly Albert at East Shore Park, but Oakley United slipped up away from home at Heriot Watt University, losing 2-0 to the students.

Graeme Walker, who penned a new deal last week, hit a hat-trick for Glenrothes as they beat Easthouses Lily 5-2.

In the King Cup first round, Lochore Welfare beat Kennoway Star Hearts 6-2, with Ewan Sutherland grabbing a hat-trick.
