Independence up to the ‘posh boys’

-

Sir, - The most recent poll which I have seen on support for Scottish independence, by age group, showed that three out of four of people aged 16-34 would vote Yes, while ages 35-54 were also in favour.

As older supporters of the union die off and more supporters of independence come of age every day, it is clear that, unless there is a dramatic change somewhere along the way, independence for Scotland is only a matter of time.

Yet a coalition of unelected Scottish lords, led by discredited 80-year-old ex-Labour minister Lord Foulkes of Cumnock, in cahoots with Thatcherite ex-Tory secretary of state Baron Michael Forsyth, are boasting that they have a cunning plan to pass a bill into law in the House of Lords, making it impossible for the Scottish Government to develop a Referendum Bill by cutting off the funding.

These former unionists are plotting to prevent the Scottish people from having the opportunity to choose their constitutional future by processing this legislation through the unelected House of Lords, largely controlled by ex-public school Tory chums and elderly Labour grandees who have forgotten their roots.

It is particularly ironic that the SNP does not send representatives to the Lords on the basis that it is unelected and undemocratic.

Yet here legislation can be processed which would block the plans of our elected Scottish Government, and negate the possibility of the Scottish people expressing their democratic wish to control their own affairs, or not, as they choose.

The posh boys rule the roost and Labour help to keep them there.

It’s a sad state.
