Ross ‘misjudged’ Scottish voters

-

Sir, – Not for the first time, I believe the leader of the Scottish branch of the Conservative Party, Douglas Ross, has totally misjudged the electorate of Scotland.

He blames “partygate” for the Tories’ miserable results in the local elections.

Sure, we are not happy that the Westminster government partied while the rest of the country took the pandemic seriously and stuck to the rules.

I think the barefaced lies told by Boris Johnson and his equally deceitful party members were actually worse than the parties themselves.

Even this, though, doesn’t explain why so many people have voted against the Tory government.

What about the £30 billionplus that has been written off by “Rich Boy” Sunak?

Much of this money has been alleged to have found its way into the offshore accounts of Tory donors and their friends.

Let’s not forget about the ongoing tragedy that is Brexit, which this Westminster Tory government has subjected us to.

Then there is the rapidly worsening cost-of-living crisis where people are having to decide on whether to heat their homes or eat.

We must not ignore the inhumane actions of Priti Patel and her despicable plans for refugees.

While all this is happening we are fed the government propaganda by the right-wing, foreign-owned media.

This same media seems to be able to play down and ignore the corrupt actions of so many Tory MPs and their mega-rich donors who avoid paying their taxes in the UK and instead use offshore accounts to hide their wealth.

There is hardly a week goes by without yet another story of Tory sleaze, be it financial, sexual or criminal.

How often do these people have to face responsibility for their actions?

Very rarely, is the answer. So, Mr Ross, remember just how outraged and critical you were of your boss until you decided to do a complete U-turn and support him again.

You say that we must support Boris Johnson at the present time because of the situation in Ukraine.

You say we need stability. I would say that we cannot possibly have stability in this country while we are led by such a corrupt and incompetent government.

Harry Key.

Mid Street, Largoward.
