-

A man has been accused of “behaving in a threatening or abusive manner” by filming police officers in Dundee and Aberdeen.

Barry Nixon faces a string of charges, including “behaving in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm” by filming and photographing police officers.

The 39-year-old, who denies all the charges, is alleged to have committed offences near police stations at Baluniefield, Dundee, Nelson Street, Queen Street and Nigg in Aberdeen.

On December 5 2020 Nixon is alleged to have filmed secure entry and exit points at Baluniefield from Balmoral Avenue, filmed uniformed police officers and failed to desist when instructed to do so.

On November 12 2020 he is alleged to have entered the grounds of Nelson Street station through a closed barrier, filmed secure entry and exit points, filmed uniformed officers and members of the public, repeatedly asked if firearms officers were stationed there and refused to stop when instructed.

On February 2 2021, at Abbotswell Crescent, Aberdeen, near Nigg police office and near Queen Street station, Nixon is alleged to have taken photographs of uniformed and off-duty officers.

Nixon also faces a further four charges, including two under the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (Directions by Local Authorities) (Scotland) Regulations 2020.

He is accused of travelling from Montrose to Dundee without reasonable excuse in breach of Level 3 regulations on December 5 2020 and of leaving his home without reasonable excuse on February 2 2021.

He faces two charges of failing to provide his information to police.

He entered pleas of not guilty to all charges through solicitor Charlie Benzies.

Sheriff James Mulgrew fixed a further pre-trial hearing in the case against Nixon, of South Hillside of Craigo, Montrose, for October.
