Find a career that makes you happy

-

There is a saying “if you love what you do, you will never have to work a day in your life” – most people have heard of it, but few are living it.

Ask yourself now, do you love what you do? If not, why not? After all, we spend almost 1,800 hours a year at work (based on a 35-hour-week) and see our colleagues more than we see our own families, so enjoying what we do is important.

In the last two years, with a change in ways of working, many of us have reassessed our careers, as well as what is important in our lives, and for a lot of us, that is being in a career that fulfils us and makes us happy.

So, it is no wonder that people are making big career changes – and life-changing decisions too. Now it is time for you to look at where you are at in life and in work, and ask yourself if it might be time for a change, a move or a complete re-evaluation.

There are many ways we can get more enjoyment out of our working lives and in this guide, Career 22, we look at some of the options. Whether you are chasing a promotion, wanting to move onwards and upwards, or fancy a change of career path, then you may find something inside the next eight pages to inspire you.

Needing to increase your knowledge or boost your skillset? The article on pages 4-5 will give you some tips about how you can increase your career opportunities.

Perhaps you are in the middle of applying for a new role, either within your organisation, or at a different company? Then the features on strengthening your job application and CV, and how to nail it at the interview stage, will give you some advice.

Whatever industry you are currently working in, the year 2022 has brought about a lot of change for us and our working lives already, but there are many benefits to this too. Home working has opened up many new opportunities for us to apply for roles outside our hometowns – and even country – while many businesses are launching a post-pandemic recruitment drive.

So whatever your thoughts about your career, and plans for the future or you next move, remember to keep job satisfaction in mind and how much you love what do.
