Man is jailed over ear bite and bottling
Aman who bottled his ex-partner, before biting off part of a man’s ear the next day during an unprovoked attack, has been jailed.
Kieran Wallace left his victim needing more than 100 stitches to his ear and 47 stitches to his nose following the attack in Invertiel Bank, Kirkcaldy, on May 8 last year.
The day before, at another address in the town, he repeatedly struck his former partner on the head with a glass bottle to her injury.
Wallace, 23, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court via videolink from Perth Prison.
Sheriff Susan Duff told the court the bite victim has undergone four operations to his ear and is awaiting surgery to improve the appearance of his nose, which was also bitten by Wallace during the assault.
Sheriff Duff told Wallace: “You went to the victim’s home pretending to apologise and when his guard was down, bit off part of his ear and bit his nose, leaving a notch out of it.
“His life has been utterly altered and this will affect him for the rest of his life and was an unprovoked attack.
“Social work discloses your insight into offending was poor and you appear to display no victim remorse.
“You are assessed as posing significant risk of future analogous offending.”
Sheriff Duff sentenced Wallace to a total of 32 months in prison, backdated to May 10 last year when he was remanded in custody.
He was jailed for 14 months for the assault on his partner and the sentences will run concurrently.
The sheriff said that, in order to protect the public from serious harm, Wallace will be placed under a supervised release order for eight months.
A three-year nonharassment order was also made against him in relation to his ex-partner.
Wallace previously admitted assaulting the man to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and permanent impairment by biting his ear causing a section of flesh to detach, repeatedly punching him on the head, biting his nose and seizing his throat.
He also admitted assaulting the woman by repeatedly striking her on the head with a glass bottle to her injury.
Wallace was admonished for a third charge of assaulting a police officer at Kirkcaldy Police Station on May 8 2021 by headbutting him.
Defence lawyer Kerr Sneddon told the court that the headbutt was in fact a “glancing blow”.
Mr Sneddon said his client was disappointed in himself and ashamed of his offending.
He added that Wallace developed an addiction to street valium, which he hopes to address, and referred to him suffering a tragic family event in his past.
