ATHLETICS
The Pitreavie Frame Running Festival in Dunfermline was a great day of competition for the Perth Strathtay Harriers Frame Running athletes. They included some of the club’s newest competitors.
The Perth Strathtay team included internationalist Mathew Doig plus Wiktoria Mucha, Rosie Randall, Rebecca Hunter, Jackie Scobie and Calum MacGregor.
Strathtay official Jim Hunter said: “There were some fantastic races, from 50 to 800 metres. Lots of podium places made it a day to remember for our team.”

CRICKET
Scotland suffered a setback last night when they slumped to a shock defeat in Texas. Despite four wickets from Safyaan Sharif, the Scots, warming up for tomorrow’s World Cup League 2 clash with USA, leaked 253 runs in 40 overs against a local invitational team. Matthew Cross responded with 69 from 75 deliveries while Callum MacLeod faced 77 balls for his 56 but Scotland fell 26 runs short.
CYCLING
Dries De Bondt won stage 18 of the Giro d’Italia as a four-man breakaway stole away the final opportunity for Mark Cavendish and the rest of the sprinters.
The predominantly flat 156km run from Borgo Valsugana to Treviso should have been one for the quick men, and the last bunch sprint of this Giro, but the sprint squads got their sums wrong as the break stayed clear, with De Bondt beating Edoardo Affini, Magnus Cort and Davide Gabburo to the line.
Alberto Dainese brought home the sprinters 14 seconds later, with Cavendish rolling home in eighth place, having been unable to add to his stage three win in this race.
The sprint finish meant no change at the top of the general classification, in which Richard Carapaz leads Jai Hindley by just three seconds with three stages remaining.
FOOTBALL
Dryburgh Athletic Women’s SWF Championship Cup-winning side has been recognised in the 2021-22 MG ALBA Scottish Women’s Football Awards shortlists.
The nomination comes after an incredibly successful season with the side winning the inaugural SWF Championship Cup and finishing third in the SWF Championship North, narrowly missing out on a play-off place for promotion to SWPL2.
Dryburgh are on the shortlist for the SWF Championship Team of the Year, while Stacey McFadyen has been nominated for the SWF Championship North Player of the Year award and Owen MacKenzie for SWF Championship Coach of the Year.
