Blaze destroys buildings

- NEIL HENDERSON AND AMIE FLETT

AFife couple say they are relieved no one was hurt after a huge fire destroyed outbuildings at their farm cottage.

Fire crews spent more than seven hours battling the blaze at Dales Farm Cottage, just off the B981 – to the north of Inverkeithing and north-west of Dalgety Bay.

It is unclear what caused the blaze, which started in storage buildings next to Yvonne and Chris Barley’s house. The fire also damaged nearby trees.

Yvonne told The Courier: “We are just thankful that, while the fire has destroyed a lot of belongings, everyone is safe and well.

“We were alerted by neighbours that fire had broken out at around 10pm.

“The fire crews were here quickly and were amazing, with one crew remaining here throughout the night until around 6am.

“We also can’t thank our neighbours enough for their help and support as well as putting us up for the night.

“Furthermore, we must thank the fire crews for working so hard to put the fire out.”

Posting on Fife Jammer Locations, locals told of seeing flames shooting up to 40ft into the air.

One said: “I could smell the burning in my bedroom earlier on tonight when I had my window open and that was about 6.30/7pm.

“I’m in Kelty and my window has been closed from 9pm and I can still smell it.

“I honestly hope nobody has been hurt, it must be bad.”

Another wrote: “The flames are a good 30-40ft high so it’s pretty spectacular.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We took the first call at 10.07pm – we received 20 calls to it in total. Several outbuildings were alight.

“There were no persons involved at all, no hazardous materials involved.

“But we did have a large attendance there – there were six pumps plus a support unit and a water carrier at the height of the incident.

“We had an appliance in attendance until 5.30am this morning but all appliances have left now.”
