PLAYER RATINGS
Craig Gordon - Several outstanding stops could only delay Ukraine’s opener and he was left exposed for the three goals. 8
Scott McTominay - Was pulled in and out of the back three by the visitors’ clever movement and eventually looked slightly more comfortable when he moved into midfield early in the second half. 5
Grant Hanley - Could not rise to his recent level of Scotland performances. Shoved up front in the latter stages, the Norwich defender could not make an impact. 5
Liam Cooper - Struggled to deal with the movement of Ukraine’s attacking players. 5
Aaron Hickey - The Bologna left-back played on the right and looked a bit unsure early on in his first international start. Grew into the game though and looked a threat going forward in the second half. 6
Billy Gilmour - A sign of how off-colour Scotland were when the normally accurate midfielder was off target with some simple passes. 5
Callum McGregor - The midfielder could not get on top of Ukraine’s interchanging of passing in the middle in the first half but never stopped harrying the opposition and was rewarded for his endeavour with Scotland’s goal. 6
Andrew Robertson - Made a couple of promising first-half runs but had too much to do, and his delivery in general was not at its best. Under scrutiny after his open-top bus drinking session on Sunday, the Liverpool player squandered possession several times as Scotland chased an equaliser. 5
John McGinn - Consistently Scotland’s best player in recent years, he had a rare off night, overrunning the ball on several occasions. Was perhaps fortunate to avoid a red card after lunging in following one of those moments. The worst was soon to come when he headed wide from six yards when it looked easier to score. 5
Lyndon Dykes - Made a few decent interventions in his own half but had little service further forward. Picked up a yellow card and was sacrificed at half-time as Steve Clarke sought much-needed change. 5
Che Adams - Forced one second-half stop but his touch was not of his usual quality. 5
Substitutes
Ryan Christie came on at half-time but Scotland were two down before he got a chance to influence proceedings and never quite had the impact he wanted. Stuart Armstrong could have done better on the ball and Jack Hendry came on with Scotland chasing the game. 5
