RADUCANU HOPING TO FEATURE AT WIMBLEDON

-

Emma Raducanu remains on course to play at Wimbledon later this month – but will not feature in next week’s Rothesay Classic in Birmingham.

The US Open champion was forced to retire against Viktorija Golubic at the Rothesay Open on Tuesday after only seven games due to a side injury.

Raducanu, who was making her first competitive appearance on home soil since her stunning New York triumph, felt discomfort as early as the opening game in Nottingham and was unable to complete the first-round tie.

It had thrown into doubt the hopes of the British No 1 featuring at the All England Club, but a scan appears to have allayed those fears.

Raducanu has been plagued by a number of fitness issues with hip and back complaints coupled with blisters during her opening season on the ATP Tour.

● British tennis player Tara Moore has been provisionally suspended after failing a drugs test during a WTA tournament in Colombia in April.

The 29-year-old, the country’s top doubles player with a world ranking of 83, tested positive for nandrolone metabolites and Boldenone.

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said Moore will now be given an opportunity to request that the B sample is analysed.

● Dan Evans swept aside Italy’s Thomas Fabbiano to advance to the quarter-finals of the Rothesay Open on a rain-affected day in Nottingham.

The British No 2 won 7-5 6-0 to set up a last eight meeting with Switzerland’s MarcAndrea Huesler.

Heather Watson failed to make the most of a bright start as she fell to a 7-5 6-2 defeat against Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic in the women’s event. Harriet Dart was down 5-7 6-4 against Italian third seed Camila Giorgi when play was suspended for the day.
