New business club set to launch to improve performance

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announces the launch of a new club to support business recovery at SCDI’s Forum. The Tayside club will offer local organisations a platform to network and to learn from peers to share ideas and improve their business perform

-

Productive businesses and regions are instrumental in increasing our standard of living and ensuring Scotland continues to compete in a global economy.

Productivity Club Scotland, a successful partnership between the Scottish Council for Development and Industry and the Scottish Government, has been supporting businesses that want to improve their performance since 2019. The club offers a unique forum for peerto-peer learning, networking opportunities, and signposting to resources and experts at no cost to all organisations the length and breadth of Scotland.

Since the launch of the network, the club has hosted more than 130 case study businesses on diverse topics including digital transformation, fair work and net-zero at more than 65 meetings and via three regional conferences.

The project has proven successful with Small and Medium

Sized Enterprises (SMEs) making improvements following the club meetings. Our research has shown hearing how other businesses operate, have overcome challenges and learning from their peers are the most valuable aspects.

The club meets regularly in person or online in Glasgow or Edinburgh, in the north-east, the Highlands & Islands and the south of Scotland with clubs reflecting the challenges and opportunities of the local business community.

Earlier this week, at SCDI’s annual conference, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced the expansion of Productivity Club Scotland to include a fifth club in Tayside. The Tayside club will offer organisations in Dundee, Angus and Perthshire with a platform to network and to learn from peers to increase their performance. SCDI is delighted to bring the club to an area generating so much innovation and activity critical to Scotland’s future economy.

The club launch is set for early autumn and will take place in Dundee. To be notified about the event launch, please register on Productivity Club’s website.

Eleonora Vanello, Productivity Club Scotland programme manager, said about the new club: “We are delighted to expand the club to cover the Tayside region.

“We can’t wait to hear from local organisations about their experiences and to work together to create a productive community of enterprises that want to do things better.

“Productivity has a huge impact on our standard of living and our mission is to help businesses unleash their potential to benefit the whole of Scotland.”

The National Strategy for Economic Transformation (NSET) launched earlier this year identified increasing productivity as one of the five key transformational programmes of action that can drive

improvements in Scotland’s economy.

Productivity Club Scotland will play an active role in delivering the NSET’s goals contributing to the wellbeing economy.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said about Productivity Club: “Productivity clubs are a simple and powerful way that businesses of all sizes can learn from each other about different ways of raising productivity – including effective management techniques, new ways to engage employees, and the successful use of new technology.

“Our National Strategy on Economic Transformation places a strong emphasis on productivity, which we need to raise right across the economy and right across the country, and that’s why we are helping SCDI to expand its productivity club network by helping to fund the establishment

of a new club in Tayside, and support existing clubs to enlarge their membership by including more social enterprises and third sector organisations.

“These clubs already have more than 1,800 members across the country and in initial evaluation more than 50% of those who responded said they had made improvements or changes to their businesses as a result of productivity club events, and around 10% said that they had already generated new business as a result of the events.”

Organisations in the Tayside region interested in knowing more about the club are invited to register for free to our online Highlands & Islands event, (June 23), or in-person Aberdeen event, (June 28), which will focus on the topic of business efficiency.
