DUNDEE AND DISTRICT WEDNESDAY BOWLING ASSOCIATIO­N – Guthrie fours – Fairfield BC (lead D. Smart, second E. Kimmet, third R. Russell, and skip B. Joss) beat Dudhope BC (lead T. Welsh, second D. Ross, third J. Hosan, and skip J. Penman) 19-14. Millar triples – Lochee ( lead J. Nicoll, second J. Henderson, and skip W. Milne) beat Longforgan BC (lead J Ewing, second J. Cameron, and skip W Vannet) 28-6. Killacky pairs – Lochee BC (lead S. Gillespie, and skip M. Coats) beat Broughty BC (lead K. Dorricott, and skip M. Watson) 25-8. Ferguson singles – Muirhead & Birkhill BC (E. Mason) beat Strathmart­ine BC (G. Smith) 21-2. Trophies and prizes were presented by president A Woods of the Dundee and District Wednesday Bowling Associatio­n after a buffet meal at Broughty Castle BC. Also present were vice-president A Gibb (Broughty Castle BC) and vice-president G Prophet (D&D Wednesday BA), from Balgay BC.

CYCLING

Ethan Hayter defended his time trial title as the British National Road Championsh­ips got under way yesterday.

The elite men’s category podium was the same as last year’s event, with Daniel Bigham and James Shaw finishing second and third respective­ly. Team Ineos Grenadiers rider Hayter completed the 44.2km course in an impressive 50 minutes 38.53 seconds at the Crichton estate in Dumfries. It was a great day for the Hayter family as younger brother – and defending champion – Leo Hayter triumphed in the Under-23 men’s time trial in Scotland.

Joscelin Lowden won the elite women’s time trial ahead of Leah Dixon and Elizabeth Holden, while Pfeiffer Georgi took the Under-23 women’s crown.

GOLF

Connor Neil claimed his first men’s championsh­ip at Blairgowri­e Golf Club.

The Perth and Kinross County player, who has been a member of his home-town club since childhood, turned in a superb performanc­e to defeat Greg Anton 10&8 in the final. Former Blairgowri­e High School pupil Connor, who is the older brother of Challenge Tour pro and one-time Amateur champion Bradley, was thrilled with his landmark win.

“It has been a long time coming and it feels like I have finally got the monkey off my back,” he said. The ladies’ club championsh­ip was captured by Jillian Milne in fine but blustery conditions. The former P&K county champion beat Susan Arbuckle 2&1 in a closely fought 18-hole final played on Lansdowne.

NETBALL

Flyballers finished as top club in the Perth Ladies Netball League. They won the league and end of season tournament.

Runners-up in the league were Dundee team TNT. They also won the Dundee league, finishing unbeaten.

Cherrybank Inn were runners-up in the Perth

tournament, with Shelley Cameron being voted the Cherrybank Players’ and Coaches’ Player of the Year.

Lauren Sinclair (Perth Pumas) was the league Players’ Player of the Year and the Officials’ Player of the Year.

SWIMMING

Luke Greenbank won silver in the men’s 200 metres backstroke at the World Aquatics Championsh­ips yesterday.

The 24-year-old took bronze at the 2019 edition and upgraded it to silver in Budapest, where Ryan

Murphy of the United States pipped him to gold during a strong finish.

Brodie Williams finished fourth in that race at his maiden World Championsh­ips, lowering the personal best he set in the semi-finals by a hundredth of a second to 1 minute 56.16 seconds. Great Britain ended the day by winning bronze in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay, with Tom Dean anchoring the team superbly following the legs of James Guy, Jacob Whittle and Joe Litchfield. Dean has won Great Britain’s only other medal in Hungary, having finished third in the individual 200m freestyle on Monday.
