● NETBALL – The TNT team who won the Dundee Netball League and came second in its Perth equivalent boasts two internatio­nal players.

Player-head coach Janice Moreno, who lives in Monifieth, has turned out on 47 occasions for Gibraltar and is in their squad for World Cup qualifiers in Glasgow in October.

Although she has yet to play for the Republic of Ireland, Teresa Page has been in what is termed their long squad. However, the native of County Cork, a resident of Arbroath, has appeared three times for her country at basketball.

● ATHLETICS – Perth Strathtay Harrier Alasdair Anderson won two gold medals at the Scottish Schools Athletics Championsh­ips at Grangemout­h.

He won the Group A Boys’ Discus with a distance of 35.33 metres in wet and very windy conditions.

Alasdair followed that up by winning the Group A Boys’ Shot Put with a distance of 12.04 metres, a personal best.

● ICE HOCKEY – Dundee Stars have a new title sponsor for the 2022-23 season.

The Elite Ice Hockey league team will be sponsored by industrial supplies business Trade-Mart.

Stars commerical manager Michael Ward said: “We are delighted to welcome Trade-Mart as our new title partner. We are excited to welcome onboard an exciting and ambitious brand that matches our ambitions of growth and aim of putting Dundee on the map.”

● CYCLING – Mark Cavendish won a threeway sprint for the line to claim a second British National Road Championsh­ip title – and first for nine years – in Castle Douglas. The Manxman saw off the challenge of under-23 rider Sam Watson and Alex Richardson over the 201-kilometre course around Dumfries and Galloway.
