Gala week returns full of family fun after Covid hiatus
Broughty Ferry Gala Week is back this week after a twoyear absence caused by the pandemic. The fun kicks off tomorrow with a gala fete at Castle Green that will include traditional games, a barbecue, face painting, a karate display by Tenshinkan, a super cars parade, a beat the goalie competition starring former Scotland and Dundee goalkeeper Rab Douglas and a children’s fancy dress competition.
On Monday there will be a sand sculpture competition for children aged from four to 14 at the bathing shelter on the Esplanade, which will be followed by a beetle drive at St Stephen’s Church.
From 10am on Tuesday, families are invited to a treasure hunting event on the beach, which will be followed by a family fun race night in St Stephen’s Church from 7 to 9pm.
Wednesday will see Screen On The Green on Castle Green with a screening of 1986 Top Gun from 6.30pm, with prizes for the best fancy dress costume.
Earlier in the day there will be a bonnie baby competition on Castle Green and a pet show that starts at 1pm – with special guests Paw Patrol and pals.
There will be a silent disco for all ages from 7pm on Thursday in St Stephen’s Church Hall.
The friends of Broughty Ferry Library fun day will take place at the library on Queen Street on Friday, while story telling for under-fives, children’s craft activities and board games are available throughout the day.
From 1.30pm there will be a best dressed teddy competition at Castle Green Leisure Centre, then at night a fiddlers’ rally will take place at St Stephen’s Church Hall.
Saturday sees the gala prize bingo night at St Stephen’s Church Hall, then at 11am on Sunday the jubilee-themed family fun run will kick off from the Broughty Castle, Mill Street, car park.
The Secret Garden Trail also returns that day, where you can get the opportunity to visit some gardens that are more secret than others, some that are always open to the public and others that are usually hidden.
