Cameron keen to see Shire extend winning run

-

Scott Cameron is hoping Forfarshire can beat the weather and StoneywoodDyce as the Eastern Premier cricket season enters the second half.

Shire were denied almost certain victory in the corresponding match when rain interrupted their run chase on the opening day.

And skipper Cameron wants his in-form side to have the chance to extend their winning run at Forthill this afternoon.

Shire had a weekend to remember last week, beating Watsonians at Myreside on Saturday before sending holders Heriot’s tumbling out of the Scottish Cup the following day.

The captain said: “Hopefully we get a game in tomorrow. The weather isn’t looking great but fingers crossed we are able to play.

“We are happy where we are going into the second half of the season – last weekend was the style of cricket we want to play and I think we showed we can beat anyone on our day if we play to our best level.”

Cameron will look for more of the heroics demonstrated by Scotland star Michael Leask who, having hit 78 against Watsonians, smashed 162 24 hours later.

Leask returns to international action after today’s match and will no doubt want to go out with a bang against his old club.

Meanwhile, Arbroath, still seeking that elusive first win, visit a Heriot’s side on the rebound from last week’s cup exit.

The Goldenacre side are in pole position for a successful title defence and Arbroath captain Bryce Carnegie is reading nothing into their defeat in the cup.

He said: “We are just focusing on ourselves and haven’t really been looking at what other teams have been doing.

“It’s clearly going to be a tough game but, as a team, we are just looking to improve on our own performances and build on it.”

Once again, Arbroath have selection issues with Ross McLean, Gregor Fraser, Pranav Saravanan and Ryan Plomer out, with Greg Peal, Jack Plomer, Matthew Salmond and Luke Hayes coming in.

Falkland experienced the full force of a potent Heriot’s bowling attack last Saturday when they were shot out for just 89 and they face another tough test when they head back to the capital to take on Carlton.

Skipper Lyle Robertson said: “Going into the second half of the season we have to discuss what games we can go after even though I believe we are good enough to compete with every other team in our league.”

RH Corstorphine entertain Grange, while a second capital derby sees Watsonians make the short trip to Inverleith to face Stewart’s Melville.
