Sink tips are catching on hoppers and flies

LINTRATHEN: The fish have been just under the surface and floating and sink tip lines have been taking them on hoppers, snatchers and small dark flies.

The club championsh­ip took place recently with eight boats out and 33 fish taken for 68lb 3oz.

Gav Ferguson was the winner with four for 8lb 13 oz. Second was Steve Mannion with four for 8lb 10oz, followed by Eck Ewart in third with four for 8lb 8oz.

Club results include – Leslie & Glenrothes six boats, 37 for 76lb 9oz, Eck Ewart four for 8lb 6oz, Tom Melville and Jim Galloway eight for 19lb 4oz, John Browning four for 8lb 8oz, Harry Furey four for 9lb, Moyra and Stuart Ferrier six for 16lb 2oz, Lennon and Jeffrey eight for 17lb 6oz, D McPherson four for 10lb 8oz, Tom Melville and Jim Galloway eight for 17lb 8oz and Lennon and Jeffrey eight for 16lb 8oz.

RESCOBIE LOCH: Catches for June are nearly double that of last June, and in the last week there has been a large stocking of brown trout.

The fish of the month winner for June is Alec Brewster with a 6lb 8oz rainbow, and fish of the month leader for July is Lee Brewster with a 6lb 13oz brown trout of 6lb 13oz.

Ferry Fly Dressers AC had 16 for 39lb 5oz, Dundee AC 31 for 81lb 8oz, Perth AC 17 for 42lb and Balbeggie AC 28 for 71lb 11oz.

Catches at the four-fish limit included Mr Mitchell 14lb, Lee Anderson 13lb, D Robertson 12lb 8oz, Ken Mackie 12lb 8oz, G Airth 12lb 2oz, A Fyall 12lb, R Thom 11lb 13oz, R Clark 11lb 12oz, D Paton 11lb 8oz, M Low 11lb 4oz, R Adams 11lb 1oz, Ron Beedie 11lb and D Watson 11lb.

Rescobie recently held a charity competitio­n that raised more than £1,000 for the Maggie’s Centre in Dundee.

The winners were: day one Dave Simpson four for 10lb 12oz, Alan Wood four for 8lb 14oz and Robert Gibson four for 8lb 12oz. Day two winners were Peter Greig with four for 12lb 7oz, Tom Greig with four for 10lb 3oz and Andy McDonald with four for 9lb 6oz.

MONIKIE: The fish appear to be starting to feed on the large numbers of pin fry that are in the Island and North pond, but do not yet appear to be totally switched on to them.

The bailiff was the only boat out on Monday, keeping three for 5lb 10oz on black shuttlecoc­k and hares ear dries.

Most of the day there was no wind making the flat calm conditions difficult, with fish coming short to the dries.

Notable Catches include D Simpson single angler evening boat on the North returned all four caught, John Tolmie single day boat on the North returned all six caught, K Forbes and D Roy evening boat on the Island taking five for 9lb plus five returned, D Roy single day boat on the Island returned all seven caught, G Moodie single day boat on the Island taking five for 10lb 6oz plus four returned, Galloway and Melville day boat on the Island taking 10 for 21lb 8oz, Dave Anderson and Bill Russel day boat on the Island taking 10 for 20lb, Alec Murray and A Strachan day boat on the Island taking 10 for 18lb 10oz, D Dutch single day boat on the North taking five for 11lb 7oz and J Gibb single day boat on the Island taking five for 11lb 10oz.

Clubs out included Ferry Fly Dressers with six evening boats on the North taking 29 rainbows for 57lb 10oz and Blairgowri­e and Rattray & District AC with five day boats on the Island taking 39 rainbows for 71lb.
