Strathalla­n sweep into semis

Strathalla­n booked their place in the semi-final of the Scottish Schools under-18 Shield with a resounding 56-5 win over Royal High School.

The Perthshire school join Robert Gordon’s College, Edinburgh Academy and Hutchesons’ Grammar School in the last four.

District representa­tive Mark New, playing on the wing, ran in four tries for Strathalla­n, the other scores coming from No 8 Matt Fagerson (2), wing Gavin Tulloch, replacemen­t wing William Murray, scrum-half Cameron Griffiths and flanker and skipper Jack Bruce.

Fagerson and Archie Duncan (2) added conversion­s.

Hutchesons’ reached the last four at the expense of Bell Baxter High School, whose bid to reach the semifinals ended with a 31-24 defeat.

“Unfortunat­ely on the day we played very poorly.” admitted Bell Baxter’s coach Brodie Runciman, who side lost the try count 4-5 to their Glasgow opponents.

Bell Baxter’s tries came from Cameron Patrick (2), Fraser Allan and Brad O’Hanlon.

Meanwhile in the final round of Scottish Rugby’s Black Conference, Morrison’s Academy signed off with a 57-0 win over Wellington School with a nine-try haul that included a hat-trick from Andrew Campbell, two from Jonathan Ross and one each from Shaun Barton, Tommy Johnston, Will Waller and Andrew Morrison. Campbell converted six of the touchdowns.
